About
Hi, I’m Irfan
CheckOps engineer. I write about the overlap of development, QA, and operations, and I keep the directory so the testing market is easier to navigate.
I am Irfan Ahmad. I write The CheckOps Engineer: a directory of automation testing tech, tools, and trends, and a record of how teams ship with speed, security, and scale. The work sits on modern software testing and automation engineering.
CheckOps started as a side project to make the testing ecosystem easier to navigate. Testers, SDETs, and engineering managers use it when they want a clear view of tools, tech, and trends.
I maintain a large curated directory of software testing tools, updated as the market moves, along with practical guides and a monthly newsletter on testing and AI. This site carries that directory, the essays, and the long-form checklists.
I have spent 14+ years in software quality and engineering leadership, helping teams build reliable products and scale testing across UI, API, mobile, performance, and security. Much of that work is QA leadership and the transformation that lets a team move fast without breaking things. I am based in India and work with teams that ship beyond it.
How I hold the work
Checking answers a narrow question: does it do the thing we already named? Testing asks what else can happen. Operations asks whether the answer is still true after the deploy. Teams split those questions across job titles and then act surprised when the release notes and the incident channel disagree.
Tools matter, and they are not the practice. A model can propose a test, a mock, or a review comment. It cannot attend the production symptom you did not describe. The check still has to be owned by someone who understands the system.
The career arc, the themes I teach from, and how to invite a talk are on theleadership page.
